Authentic Lindy Hop classes with Tom & Cicci; In-the-pocket swing music for dancers from DJ JazzMonkey + special guests
Tuesday 23rd June: Beginners' introduction to the swing out / DJ JazzMonkey + guests on the decks
Tuesday 30th June: Master selector John-Paul Séculaire (Right On!) joins DJ JazzMonkey to spin some tunes / last Jazz Joint in our initial run
7:00 - 8:00 Beginners Class
8:15 - 9:15 Intermediates Class
9:15 - 11:45 DJs and dancing
And that's not all: for the next few Tuesdays, there happens to be a live jazz band playing upstairs in the bar from around 9. They play a range of jazz styles and we can't guarantee that it'll all be Lindy-friendly; but when it gets too hot and crowded downstairs, they're great for a breather.
Tuesday 16th, 23rd, 30th June 2009 – Swing Dance classes - learn authentic Lindy Hop.
£5 for each class or for just the dancing / £8 for the whole night: any combination of classes and dancing.
7:00 - 8:00 Beginner Class: covers basic Lindy Hop rhythms, moves and concepts.
8:15 - 9:15 Intermediate class: building on the basics, exploring more challenging techniques and ideas.
The relaxed, low-pressure classes in Lindy Hop are perfect for anyone who's ever considered trying Swing Dance. Experienced teachers Tom & Cicci are specialists at bringing out the dancer in anyone, no matter how many left feet they think they have. Over a 4 week cycle, they'll cover the basic rhythms and important steps you need to cut a rug. Drop in to any week, or do all 4 for the complete package.
9:15 - 11:45 Social Dancing with top DJs playing swinging tunes
Resident DJ JazzMonkey will be joined by some of the finest lacquer fans who know how to keep the dancers happy.

Anything you feel comfortable in. Some Lindy Hoppers like to dress in authentic period
fashion; others wear sports clothes; others come straight from work. Make sure you have
good comfortable shoes though - you probably want something you can jump around in
comfortably with a sole that isn't too grippy or too slippy.
Not at all - we'll rotate within the class so you'll get to dance with everyone. If there
are more follows than leads (or, miraculously, more leads than follows) then you may stand
out of the rotation occasionally, but we'll keep things moving. And we'll do our best to
make sure the class doesn't get too imbalanced.
The classes are drop in, so you don't need to book: you can come to any of them individually
or do all to get the most information. We'll offer classes you need to book for in the future.
If you'd like to hear more about these, drop an email to thejazzjoint@googlemail.com to get on our
mailing list and hear about classes first.
We're not going to lie to you: Lindy Hop is a rich, deep dance and you're not going to master
it in a few short classes. However, you only need one class to get you started. And the pleasure
is all in the journey of learning.
