Who am I?

The empathy + metrics guy.

Nearly 20 years of experience in scientific, UX-led digital design have taught me two things:

  1. effective designs change behaviour
  2. nobody can reliably predict which designs are going to be effective 

When you have complex humans interacting with complex digital products, you get a fiesta of unpredictable, non-linear effects. Opinions — even expert ones — will only get you so far.

The good news is that finding a better design is possible with the right tools and an explorer's approach.

UX for Flex-e-net Trader Voice connection system 

Designed, tested and optimised the user interface for Flex-e-net's powerful trader voice management software. They launched in 2008 in London and have since expanded globally, still using the interface I designed.

UX for HiFX currency exchange system

Used rapid prototyping combined with several rounds of user testing to optimise an online currency transaction system that was highly usable and was praised from the first day it launched.
